Behind-the-screen activity helped solve Ayodhya dispute

While Ram Janmabhoomi verdict is a welcome relief and has brought a closure to a long pending issue, a lot of behind-the-screen activity has actually happened ahead of the verdict. This has helped create a conducive atmosphere in the country.

Here's a lowdown of the behind-the-screen activity that took place on the Ayodhya issue. The Government representatives have met several muslim leaders privately and convinced them that wisdom lies in foregoing the claims on the Babri mosque. They have also convinced them that the verdict of the court should be accepted by one and all. The mediation effected by the Supreme Court through the three-member committee, led by Art of Living Guru Sri Sri Ravi Sankar has also worked very hard to convince the Sunni Wakf Board. It was during this mediation that the proposal for land for masjid at an alternative site has come up.

More importantly, the RSS held several meetings with the leaders of the Muslim community. On September 30, RSS chief Mohan Bhagwat held long meeting with Jamiat Ulema-e-Hind chief Asad Madani. Similarly, the only Muslim minister in Modi cabinet, Mukhtar Abbas Naqvi has organised at least 20 meetings between the Muslim leaders and the RSS BJP leaders. This helped in arriving at a consensus. It is because of this reason that the Sunni Wakf Board has announced that they would not seek a review of the Supreme Court judgement.

To top it all, firm handling by Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have ensured that miscreants did not dare to create a ruckus and whip up communal riots. This deft behind-the-screen-activity has ensured that everything went off smoothly and a decade long dispute has been solved.
