Beneficiaries Cannot Be Pushed to Take the Covid doses: SC!

Taking vaccine doses is the need of the hour to beat the Covid pandemic. All the nations across the globe have been vaccinating the beneficiaries as a precautionary measure. India is doing well compared to many others in terms of vaccinating the beneficiaries as the ongoing nationwide vaccine drive has already reached a few rare milestones.

Besides the two doses of vaccine, the Indian government also gave its nod for the booster doses and the beneficiaries are taking the same. Amid this, the Supreme Court of India had made some interesting comments on vaccines.

The Apex Court said that one should not be forced to take the Covid doses as the guidelines that say those who did not take the doses should not be allowed to visit the public places should be scrapped at the earliest.

Finding fault with the current vaccine policy, a doctor had knocked on the doors of the Supreme Court saying that making it compulsory for the beneficiaries to take the anti-Covid doses goes against the Constitutional rights.

In his petition, the petitioner said that the data of the clinical trials of the vaccines and the after-effects of taking the doses should be made out.

During the hearing, the Supreme Court said that the rule to take the Covid vaccine cannot be made compulsory, and saying no to those who did not take the doses to enter the public places is not appreciable and hence it should be removed at the earliest.

Having said that, the bench of the Supreme Court comprising justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai had issued directives to the Union government on the vaccination drive and asked the Centre to make a policy on giving vaccines to the beneficiaries.

Talking about the vaccine numbers, the Supreme Court said that the vaccine numbers are low and the orders issued under the policy should be followed. The Apex Court said that no restrictions should be imposed on the non-vaccine takers and observed that the guidelines that impose the restrictions on them should be scrapped. The court also said that the effects of taking doses should be published.
