Big Step In Implementing Citizenship In India by MHA?
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Nov 2022 11:41 AM GMTThe Bharatiya Janata Party which has been in power at the Center since 2014 took many controversial decisions. Farm laws and the Citizenship (Amendment) Act are among them. While the farm bills are taken back the Union government kept its silence on CAA due to various reasons.
Now a discussion on CAA started with the Center reportedly taking a decision to grant citizenship to Hindus in Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh who are seen as minorities there. The Ministry of Home Affairs gave a notification on this.
The recent news is that the MHA told two District Collectors in Gujarat to grant citizenship to the minorities in the three nations. The Hindus, Sikhs, Buddhists, Jains, Parsis, and Christians who are living in Anand and Mehsana in Gujarat would get citizenship now.
At regular intervals, we hear stories about the atrocities on Hindus in the Muslim nations of Pakistan, Afghanistan, and Bangladesh. Young girls are forcefully converted and married there. To save them from the treatment the government proposed the citizenship idea.
With the CAA aiming at granting citizenship to minorities leaving Muslims the opposition parties in the country are making a big ruckus and the issue is pending now with the Supreme Court. So new citizenship would be granted under the Citizenship Act, 1955.
The Union government starting the citizenship process from Gujarat should be seen from the political lens and the state will see general elections soon. The parties are talking about the CAA favorably. AAP which wants to enter the state also supported the citizenship exercise.
