Big Win for TN Govt, Rajiv Gandhi Killer Perarivalan Gets Bail!

Tamil Nadu is not like any other state as the Southern state strongly fights for the sentiments and interests of the state. We have seen how the entire state stood on one point on the Jallikattu issue. The state even questioned the encounter of sandalwood smugglers.
When a few smugglers were encountered in Andhra Pradesh, former Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Jayalalithaa asked who will compensate the families of smugglers as the police families will get ex-gratia from the government. This shows how far the state will go for its people.
As a dark chapter in Tamil Nadu's history, people who have their roots in the state assassinated the former Prime Minister of India Rajiv Gandhi. Tamil militant body based out of Sri Lanka Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam(LTTE) chalked out a plan to kill Rajiv Gandhi and executed the plan. The accused were arrested and they are facing a jail sentence since 1991.
The current Tamil Nadu government led by Chief Minister MK Stalin had passed a resolution to release one of the accused Perarivalan, who had supplied the explosive items for the attack. For the past three long decades, he has been serving a jail sentence.
As a big relief to the accused and his family members, the country's top court Supreme Court granted bail. Hearing a petition, the Supreme Court bench comprising justices L Nageswara Rao and B R Gavai issued the orders and said that, under the special power of the Supreme Court granted by the Article 142 of the Constitution.
After the Tamil Nadu Cabinet Ministers led by the state Chief Minister took a resolution that the accused should be released from the court as he has spent more than three decades and his behavior in the court is also good and no remarks are there against him, the same was sent to the Governor.
The Governor's office said yes to the resolution. Earlier this week, the Supreme Court asked the Union government on the issue. As a response, the Centre said that it will be good if the issue can be kept on hold till the President responds to the resolution. Not happy with this, the SC granted the bail.
