Jagan's Courageous Decision Shows Govt's Commitment
By: Tupaki Desk | 27 July 2019 5:45 AM GMTPromises are easily made and are rarely kept. It one thing to give an assurance and it is quite another to implement it. Every election time, promises are made and sops are showered. But, they are conveniently forgotten once the elections are over. But, AP Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy is one of a kind leader who believes in doing what he says. The case in point is the bold and no-nonsense passing of the pre-judicial bill. The bill has been passed on Friday in the AP assembly. This bill will ensure that the awarding of the bids and tendering process of the projects costing over Rs 100 crore is more transparent and that there are no irregularities in the awarding of the contracts. According to the bill, any project worth more than Rs 100 crore will have to be first reviewed by a judge. A committee will examine the project thoroughly and would put the tenders in the public domain.
This is refreshingly different from the current system where there is no transparency and accountability. This led to wastage of public money. The new system entails that the project is examined by a committee, comprising experts. They would ensure that there no corruption in the system. In the former system, huge amounts were wasted in taking up projects like Amaravati construction. In the new system, this cannot happen. Chief Minister Jagan feels that instead of doing a post-mortem, it is better to pre-check the project bids. This will eliminate procedural wrangles and project delays. There would be no legal issues involved.
Only governments of substance, courage and will to serve the people can enact such laws. Kudos to YS Jagan for implementing what he assured. Kudos to his courage of conviction.
