Replying to a question on long-waiting demand of special category status to Andhra Pradesh, the Union Government made it clear that special status cannot be allotted to any state and called the special category to AP a closed chapter.

Now the same Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP) took a major u-turn and promised to allot 'special Union territory' status to Puducherry, and everyone knows the reason for this. Puducherry will witness the elections in a few weeks.

The saffron party promised the same in its election manifesto for Puducherry and a revised cost-sharing for the projects was also promised. As per the scheme endorsed by the BJP, the Union Government will spend 70 percent for the projects, while the Puducherry govt will have to spend only a30 percent of the total cost.

The double standards of the BJP, which projects itself as the party that fights for the culture and the Country(Desham Kosam, Dharmam kosam) is getting bashed by the political outfits and political circles.

The opposition Telugu Desam Party(TDP) took this as an opportunity to breathe fire on its former ally BJP and questioned why the saffron party is showing double standards in dealing with Puducherry and Andhra Pradesh.

Senior TDP MLA Gorantla Buchaiah Chowdary lashed out at the BJP and said, “BJP refused to grant special status citing the recommendation of the 14th finance commission. But now, it is promising special status for Puducherry. Has the BJP forgotten the promise made by Modi in Tirupati,” he questioned.

The Andhra Pradesh wing of Congress has also bashed the saffron party and Jana Sena chief Pawan Kalyan, who once termed the special package as rotten laddus, and why he remained silent on this.

The Puducherry promise will surely leave a toll on the BJP, which wants to win the Tirupati by-poll to enter Andhra Pradesh with a bang. The BJP is facing the wrath of the promise.
