BJP's meet on Rayalaseema fails to enthuse
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Sept 2021 5:45 PM ISTThe BJP held a day-long meeting on Sunday about the Rayalaseema region and its development in Kurnool. The state-level meeting has discussed the issues of the region and on how to wage struggles to highlight those issues. Senior leaders like Shiv Prakash Singh, Sunil Deodhar, state president Somu Veerraju, Vishnuvardhan Reddy and others were present.
The BJP held a day-long meeting in Kurnool in February 2018 and released what it called as the Rayalaseema declaration to highlight the need for the development of the region. But, it was not followed up by any concrete action on the ground. For the past three years, there was no agitational programme specific to Rayalaseema. After three years of inactivity, the party has again met at Kurnool and talked about the same issues that it talked about three years ago.
The Rayalaseema declaration has called for the setting up of the high court in Kurnool and demanded the allocation of Rs 20000 crores for the development of the region. It had also called for holding a session of the assembly in Rayalaseema. The BjP has also called for making eight districts in the region. The party has called for decentralisation of power. But, nothing was done on these issues.
The BJP has done nothing to bring pressure on the Central Government to expedite the setting up of the High Court in Kurnool. On the irrigation and drinking water needs of Rayalaseema too, the BjP has not taken any positive steps. It has done nothing to stop the Telangana governmentâs aggressive actions on Krishna river water. Political analysts feel that the BJP should do something concrete for Rayalseema before criticising the YSRCP government.
