BJP Mission 2024 Saffrons target 40 seats from South

The BJP, it appears has unveiled its Mission 2024. Realising that its performance has plateued in North and West India, the party is planning to expand in South and East India. In the West, it is the second largest political forces in North East, Bengal, Jharkhand and Odisha. But it is the south that is turning out to be BJP's Achelles' heel.

The four southern states have always eluded the BJP. In Kerala it has never opened its account. Though its vote share is rising, it has still not gathered the critical mass needed to win an MP seat. In Tamil Nadu, the party can hope to win one or two seats at the most. Though it is in power in Karnataka, sources say its tally could come down marginally. That leaves the BJP with the two Telugu states of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh.

In Telangana, it is slowly emerging as the alternative to the ruling TRS. But the TRS is no pushover. So, the fight in Telangana would be very interesting in 2024. The BJP will have to contend with the Congress party too in Telangana region. It has four MPs and could marginally improve its tally in the state in 2024. That leaves the BJP with Andhra Pradesh.

Given the BJP's performance in 2014 and 2019, it is clear that the party cannot improve much in the state. The party will have to have an alliance with the TDP to improve its position in the state. Sources say that the BjP is trying to look for political alliances that work for it. A channel has already been left open to continue discussions with the Telugu Desam Party. There are 119 MP seats in the four South Indian states and the BJP is aiming to win at least 40 seats from this region.
