After Maharashtra, BJP targets Congress in Goa

The BJP, it appears, is hell bent on making a dent in the opposition ahead of the presidential elections. Though the party is comfortably placed and can get its candidate elected quite easily, the party is leaving no stone unturned. It is trying to wean away leaders from other parties. After weaning away the majority MLAs from Shiv Sena and forming a government with Eknath Shinde, a majority of Shiv Sena MLAs and MPs will now vote for BJP candidate Draupadi Murmu.

After Maharashtra, the BJP has trained its guns on Goa. In Goa, the party has enough numbers on its side. Yet, it is weaning away at least 9 of the 10 MLAs to its side. These MLAs would vote for Murmu. Already, five of those who are said to be joining the BJP, have gone incommunicado. Their whereabouts are not known. Those in the know say that more MLAs would join them soon.

Meanwhile, the Congress, which was caught off-guard by BJP's mercurial moves, has suspended party's floor leader Micheal Lobo and former CM Digambar Kamat for hobnobbing with the BJP. Lobo was a former BJP MLA and has joined the party ahead of the recent elections. Interestingly, Kamat too is a former BJP leader.

On Sunday, Congress incharge Dinesh Gundu Rao tried to show that all the MLAs were still with the Congress Party. However, only five of the 10 MLAs were present at his show of strength. Sources say that the BJP would ensure that more opposition leaders would join the party before the presidential election. Already, Shivpaul Singh faction of the Samajwadi party in UP too has extended support to Draupadi Murmu.
