BJP to put up candidate for Atmakur bypoll, set to challenge Mekapatis

Post the sad demise of Minister Mekapati Gautham Reddy, everyone thought that the bypoll would be unanimous and some family member of Mekapatis would be made the MLA. Mekapati Gautham Reddy had no enemies and everyone loved him. The outpouring of public grief is indicative of the support and love he has got.
But, now it turns out that there could be a contest. The reason? Mekapati Rajamohan Reddy;s nephew Bijuvemula Ravindra Reddy has announced that he would contest the bypoll. He said he would contest on behalf of the BJP. He has recently addressed a press conference in Nellore and announced his candidature.
It is known that the BJP does not believe in dynasty politics and does not believe that the family members of a deceased sitting legislator should be given a walkover. It has put up candidate even at the time of the Badvel byelections. The BJP candidate polled around 20000 votes. Though the result was a foregone conclusion, the BJP opted to put up a candidate in Badvel.
Now that Bijuvemula Ravindra Reddy has thrown his hat in the ring, it is certain that there would be polling for Atmakur assembly seat. While the result is a foregone conclusion, Reddy has said that he would still be a candidate.
