Ban against Maggi lifted, Ordered for Re-Tests!

The Bombay High on Thursday lifted the ban imposed by the food regulatory authorities against Maggi noodles.

Post the tests confirming lead content in the Nestle noodles products, Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) imposed a ban on Maggi saying it is unsafe for consumption. Challenging the ban, The Swiss Manufacturer has filed a petition in High Court seeking revocation of the ban with the argument that labs which tested Maggi samples weren't accredited to test for lead content.

A Division Bench comprising of Justice VM Kanade and Justice BP Colabawalla ruled in favour of Nestle India on grounds that principles of natural justice were ignored. The High Court directed re-testing of Maggi samples in the next 6 weeks in three accredited labs in Andhra Pradesh, Punjab and Jaipur. This order came as a big relief for Nestle which lost hundreds of crores in the past few months.
