No Budget? Indian Army Cuts Rifles Order!
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Jun 2018 7:26 AM GMTAs per an estimate, About 8,00,000 modern assault rifles were required for 1.3 million Indian Army Personnel and the deal gonna cost $2.5 billion. However, Indian Army had to cut short it's order by 2/3rd due to budget constraints. An order for only 2,50,000 modern rifles will be placed.
PM Narendra Modi proposed to modernize Indian Armed Forces with an expenditure of $250 billion for effectively facing the attacks across the border. A Team will be holding talks with foreign rifle-makers to identify suitable weapon for Indian Armed Forces and place the order.
There are as many as 450,000 infantry troopers in the Defence Force. Whereas, Just 50 percent of them fight the battle and use riffles. Rest of them act as back-up soldiers.
To compensate the lack of required number of modern rifles, Indian Army will rely on 400,000 Kalashnikov rifles and INSAS rifles which is made in India.
