A prayer meeting for Catholics at the Church on Sunday turned horrific as around 50 people are believed to have been killed in a violent terror attack. After the worshippers entered the church and were busy praying to god, the suspects barged into the religious place and opened fire on them.

The unfortunate incident was reported in Nigeria from a Catholic Church. As yesterday was Sunday, where Christians gather together for prayers, the same happened at a Catholic church in southwestern Nigeria. Besides opening fire, the suspects who are believed to be terrorists also used explosives reportedly.

The St. Francis Catholic Church in Ondo state in Nigeria braced for a deadly attack when the attack was planned to target the worshippers. Reports say that not less than 50 people are feared dead. However, there is also an opinion that the actual casualties would be double the mentioned numbers. Nigeria has been on high alert since the attack.

Due to the violent attack, the Church premises was left in a pool of blood. The local legislator said that he was informed about the terror attack and the place was filled with fear sounds and loud cries made by the victims. The legislator also said that around 100 people sustained injuries in the attack and were rushed to the nearby hospital.

However, there is no information on who was behind the attack. So far, no terror outfit came out to take the responsibility for the attack. It is expected that the outfit which carried out the attack might come out to claim the responsibility.

Despite things not going well between the farmers and herders in the region, Ondo has been a peaceful region. There is a strong opinion that one side might have taken help from other factors to take on their opponents. But we cannot expect farmers to take up the violent step.

The security forces were deployed at the spot as a precautionary measure. The government said that the incident was unfortunate and the government will take all the possible steps in probing the matter at the earliest. Further details are awaited.
