CAA Protests Affected Indian Tourism

Ever since the protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act began from the northeast earlier this month. The Indian tourism industry has been hit, with at least seven countries issued travel warnings
December is the beginning of the holiday season in most of the western countries and it is the time most of them travel the world. But due to ongoing situations in the country. Several countries issued advisories to its citizens planning to travel to India or are already in India.
Protests against the Citizenship Amendment Act began from the northeast earlier this month. At least 25 people have been killed in the clashes between police and protesters and demonstrations against the law continue.
Officials estimate about 2 lakh domestic and international tourists cancelled or postponed their trip to the Taj Mahal in the past two weeks. There is a 60 percent decline in tourists this year.
Uttar Pradesh has seen the most violent clashes between the anti-CAA-NRC protesters and police. Several parts of UP including Agra were cut off from the rest of the world for days after the internet and mobile services were suspended there to prevent the spread of the unrest. Suspension of Internet and mobile services resulted in 50-60 percent decline in tourists.
According to the Assam Tourism Development Corporation, the state sees around 5 lakh tourists during December, but this time it has been down by 90 percent. Goa, another destination for holidaymakers saw a reduction of 50 percent of the tourist arrivals.
