Can TDP Continue as Main Opposition in AP?
By: Tupaki Desk | 23 Nov 2019 10:22 AM GMTThe political scenario in Andhra Pradesh is changing quick turns and twists every day as TDP leaders are joining BJP and YCP party. Interestingly, TDP leaders are making strong allegations on party chief Naidu and his son Lokesh after joining YCP.
Vallabhaneni Vamshi who recently joined YCP even said that Lokesh doesn't know the difference between birth anniversary and death anniversary.
TDP has a very less number of MLAs and if any party invited just four of the party MLAs, TDP will not able to be at least the main opposition in the state.
Recently AP CM Jagan talking about the TDP said, Our party leaders are saying," if we invite four or five leaders to our party, TDP will lose the status of the main opposition."
But he said he has opposed it and said that leaders who jump to other parties should be declared as disqualified and Assembly speaker will be granted full powers to declare those MLAs as disqualified.
According to the Constitution, to attain Main Opposition status, a party should get at least 10 percent of the Assembly seats.
Andhra Pradesh Assembly has 175 seats after the state got divided and to be the main opposition status TDP should have 18 MLA seats. Taking into consideration the current situations in AP, it seems like TDP cannot continue as the main opposition for a long period of time.
