Cannot Recognize Marriage Between Same-Sex Couple: High Court!

Parents of girls knocking on the doors of the Courts against their partners alleging that they were misguided is not new. We have heard such stories in the past. But a lady had surprised everyone by moving the court seeking custody of her daughter. In her petition, the lady says that another woman had reportedly detained her daughter.
The shocking incident took place in Uttar Pradesh. Two women fell for each other and reportedly married each other. Later they sought the intervention of the Allahabad High Court. The women said that they want the court to recognize their marriage. On top of this, the mother of one of the girls approached the court alleging that the other girl had detained her daughter.
After hearing the arguments of the two girls, the mother, and the Uttar Pradesh Government, the Allahabad High Court said that it cannot recognize the marriage between two women.
Having satisfied with the arguments of the Uttar Pradesh Government's counsel that unlike the other nationalism, where marriage is seen as a contract, marriage is part of the Indian culture and the practice of marriage between people of the same sex hinders the culture of the nation, the High Court said no to the womens’ petition.
The Allahabad High Court had quashed the petition filed by the two women, besides opposing the Habeas Corpus plea that was filed by the mother of one of the two women.
