Case Booked On Model For Breastfeeding Cover
By: Tupaki Desk | 3 March 2018 4:56 AM GMTThe latest cover of Malayalam magazine Grihalakshmi features Model-cum-Writer Gilu Joseph breastfeeding an infant. A caption 'Mothers of Kerala: Don't Stare At Us. We Need To Breastfeed' is being preferred to present the bold cover. There are mixed reaction on the gutsy act of Gilu Joseph. While a section of people appreciate what she done, Others found fault with her citing violations.
Advocate Vinod Mathew filed a petition in Kollam CJM Court against model Gilu Joseph and Magazine Publishers under Section 3 and 4 of the Indecent Representation of Women Act, 1986. He complained Gilu Joseph isn't a real mother and she is unmarried.
Another Advocate filed a complaint with the State Child Rights Commission against Gilu Joseph, Publishers and Parents of the baby featuring on the cover. He alleges a new born baby was used for commercial purposes and the infant was made to believe the model is its mom. 'Publishers should have preferred a real mother instead of a model if they are serious about the issue,' says the complainant.
Grihalakshmi editor-in-chief Moncy Joseph says all the attempts to rope a real mother for the cover failed and hence a model was preferred.
Gilu Joseph finds nothing wrong with what she has done saying breastfeeding is a mother's privilege and it's a beautiful thing. 'Which God will be angry if a Mother feeds her child?,' she questions.
