12 Years after Delhi High Court offered clean chit to Hinduja Brothers in the Bofors scandal, The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) sought Government's permission to re-open the case. If Centre gives its nod, CBI will file a Special Leave Petition against the Delhi High Court judgement in the Supreme Court.

In it's letter to the Law Ministry, CBI opined Special Leave Petition should have been filed against the verdict of Delhi High Court quashing all the charges against Hinduja Brothers (Srichand, Gopichand and Prakashchand) on May 31st, 2005. The Investigative Agency informed then UPA Government denied the permission to file SLP.

Union Minister Smriti Irani demanded Congress Party to come clean on the alleged involvement of it's leaders in the Bofors scam. Mentioning the information gathered by Private Detective Michael Hershman regarding the Bofors bribe in Swiss Bank accounts, She asked the Main Opposition to clarify if the allegations are true or not.

Bofors Scam: On March 24th in 1986, Indian Government entered into a deal with Sweden-based firm AB Bofors to procure 410 Units 155 MM Howitzer Guns for a price of Rs 1,437.72 crore. In 1987, Sweden Radio announcement confirmed the bribes received by Indian Politicians for finalizing this deal.
