The new strain of Coronavirus strain detected from the United Kingdom has sent shocking waves across the globe. Many nations, including India, suspended flight services through and fro to the United Kingdom.

After UK returnees coming in contact with the Britain mutant of the virus, India responded quickly and increased testing facilities to detect the new variants. 10 Genome sequencing labs were set up for this in q- different cities.,.

Amid, this, Hyderabad-based CSIR-Centre for Cellular and Molecular Biology (CCMB) director Dr. Rakesh Mishra addressed the media and spoke about the new lineage of the pandemic.

He said, so far 40 samples have been tested to detect the new variant. The new variants of the mutation, including three infections of the United Kingdom strain were detected.

The new variant of the virus is 71% more transmittable than the other lineages, however, the situation is under control currently as the conditions have not worsened in India compared to other countries, he said.

Adding further, he said, wearing masks outdoors, skipping crowded places, and maintaining the advised physical distance should be followed strictly, till the time vaccine is rolled out.

CCMB Director cleared all the airs on the effectiveness of the vaccines on the new variants and said, the vaccine developments will not get hindered by the new variants.
