Centre Clarifies Why It Stopped Polavaram!
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Dec 2017 11:39 AM GMTThe letter issued by Centre seeking cancellation of Polavaram Project spillway tenders created a gap between Ruling TDP & its alliance partner BJP. While Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu found fault with the approach of the Union Government, Centre has defended it's actions in the clarification it offered.
Union Water Resources Ministry clarified order has been passed to stop Spillway Tenders as it didn't receive the information sought during the last meeting from AP Government till date. The decision to stop the tenders was taken after holding a discussion in the Polavaram Project Authority Meeting.
Centre informed that a letter was sent to Rayapati's family-owned company Transstroy on November 18th raising few doubts over the Tenders. It adds, 'Subsequently, We sought information from State Government on details of work schedule and total expenditure. Whereas, AP Government didn't offer the required information. Cancelling the contract offered to Transstroy will lead to unnecessarily controversies and cost escalation'.
NDA Government even found fault with 2-weeks deadline to apply for Polavaram Spillway Tenders. It is of the view that the response would be better if a period 45 days was maintained.
