Centre Acknowledges Amaravati as AP Capital with a twist!
X
The bifurcation of Telangana left Andhra Pradesh without a capital. The previous Andhra Pradesh government led by Telugu Desam Party had announced Amaravati as the capital of the city and dubbed it as the world-class capital. However, things went upside down after the 2019 general elections in the divided Andhra Pradesh.

After coming to power, the YSRCP announced three capitals model to have one capital each for Legislature, Executive, and Judiciary. The government is very firm on the decision to have three capitals and said that a new bill on the same will be tabled in the house.

What is the capital of Andhra Pradesh is a million-dollar question? No one knows the correct answer for this. Amid the confusion, the Union government had surprised everyone by acknowledging the Amaravati region as the capital.

Having acknowledged Amaravati as the capital, the Union government gave a twist to the tale saying that as of now, the region is the capital. The Centre said the same as a response to the question asked by a member of the house.

BJP Rajya Sabha member G. V. L. Narasimha Rao who represents Uttar Pradesh state had raised the capital issue in the Upper House and asked a question on the same issue.

GVL got an answer from Union Minister of State for Home Affairs, Nityanand Rai. The Union Minister said that the Centre is seeing Amaravati as the capital as Andhra Pradesh is yet to take a call on the issue.

The Union Minister had reciprocated what the Union Government had been saying on the capital issue. Nityanand Rai said that the state has full power to take a call on the capital as the issue lies in the purview of the state.

The reply says that Amaravati stays the capital of the state until the YS Jagan Mohan Reddy-led Andhra Pradesh government introduces a new bill on the three capital issue.

It is known that the Andhra Pradesh government had recently withdrawn the three capitals bill. Everyone felt that the government had changed its decision. However, the government said that a new bill will be introduced after rectifying the mistakes in the existing bill.
