Centre Approves Additional Assistance To Six States Affected With Natural Disasters This Year
By: Tupaki Desk | 13 Nov 2020 1:10 PM GMTThe high-level committee under the leadership of Union Health Minister Amit Shah has approved financial aid of more than 4,000 for six states that were severely hit by cyclones, landslides, and floods.
Under the National Disaster Response Fund, the additional assistance of Rs 4,381.88 crore was approved for six states West Bengal, Odisha, Maharashtra, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka, and Sikkim which were affected due to the natural disasters.
Out of the six states, the major assistance was approved to West Bengal with Rs 2,707.77 crore, which was hit by Amphan Cyclone in May. Rs 611.61 was approved for Madhya Pradesh followed by Karnataka(Rs.577.84 crore), Maharashtra(Rs 268.59 crore), Odisha( Rs 128.23 crore), and Sikkim(Rs 87.84 crore).
In the official statement, the Centre maintained that to date the Union government has Rs 15,524.43 crore to 28 states under the State Disaster Response Fund.
The aftermath of the disaster, Prime Minister Narendra Modi has visited West Bengal and Odisha and released Rs 1,000 crores and Rs 500 crores to West Bengal and Odisha respectively.
The funds were released so that the states can go forward with the relief funds and shift the people struck in the affected areas to safe areas.
