In the wake of the escalating border tensions with dragon country China, the Central government banned 118 Chinese Mobile Apps including PUBG.

118 Chinese Mobile Apps including PUBG MOBILE Nordic Map: Livik, PUBG MOBILE LITE, WeChat Work & WeChat were banned in India on the grounds of compromising on the personal data of the users.

The Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology issued an official statement in this regard and said the apps that are causing damage to the defence of India were banned.

In the statement, the Ministry of Electronics and Information and Technology maintained that banning these Chinese Apps will safeguard the interests of the mobile users and internet users in India.

Some media reports claimed that the Ministry took this call after it received a lot of complaints claiming that some apps are stealing the personal data of the users in an unofficial manner.

This is the second instance of the Centre banning Chinese Apps. Earlier in June, 59 Chinese Apps including TikTok, UC Browser, Weibo were banned by the Central government.
