Centre Disappoints AP, T Once Again, New Delimitation Only After 2026

Here is one big bad news for the political parties in both Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. The Central Government and the Election Commission are in no mood to take up a fresh delimitation of the assembly and Lok Sabha constituencies and raise the number of the seats for the states. The Central Government has clearly stated that the next delimitation would be taken up only after the results of the next Census are declared. This only means that the census results would happen only after 2024. Thus, delimitation could be taken up only in 2026. In effect, the new delimitation would be in force only for 2028 elections in Telangana and 2029 elections in Andhra Pradesh.

If the delimitation is done, AP would have 50 seats more taking the total number of MLAs to 225 and 34 more seats in Telangana, taking the total to 153. This is one of the assurances given in the AP reorganisation Act, which formed the basis of the formation of the two states..Both the TRS, YSRCP and the TDP have been demanding a fresh delimitation immediately. The move would benefit the political parties as they can accommodate its leaders.

In fact, the Centre will take up a fresh delimitation all across the country by raising the number of seats in every state and in the LOk Sabha. This means these new seats would come into existence only for the 2029 polls and not before that.
