Centre Disaproves Same-sex Marriages Yet Again!

Same-sex marriage is a delicate and controversial concept in a country like India. Though a few nations accepted the marriage, India is yet to recognize the marriage. An intense fight has been carried out by same-sex couples and activists to get legal recognition. The issue was taken to the Supreme Court and the court has been hearing the arguments daily.

The Centre, which has been opposing same-sex marriages had made its stand clear on this again and said that same-sex marriages cannot be recognized. Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta, who attended the hearing on behalf of the Centre said that a committee will be set up to look into the issues faced by the LGBTQ.

The union government is believed to have told the court that same-sex marriages did not have any legal recognition in the country and disapproved the proposal. The Centre said that only opposite-sex marriages are validated and have recognistion in the country.

Ever since the fight was started, the Union government has been opposing this, and yet again the centre told the court that it is against same-sex marriages. Centre again made its stand on this clear.

On the other hand, Solicitor General of India Tushar Mehta said that the union government is considering setting up a panel to look into the issues faced by the LGBTQIA+ and the couples can send their suggestions and list their issues and they can also send their suggestions to him.
