Centre Just A step Away From Starting Central Vista Project?
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Jan 2021 6:56 AM GMTIn a most significant development, the Supreme Court on Tuesday gave its nod for the redevelopment plan for the Central Vista project. The centre can now go ahead with the construction.
The issue reached the top court of a bunch of petitions were filed against the Central Vista Committee over the lack of transparency and objectivity in issuing clearances for the mega project.
The three-judge constitutional bench led by Justice AM Khanwilkar which also comprises Justice Dinesh Maheshwari and Justice Sanjiv Khanna heard the petitions filed by petitioners pertaining to various issues.
After hearing the arguments of the petitioners, the three-judge bench gave its verdict on the mega project by giving its clearance for the Central Vista project.
While giving the verdict, the apex court of India has also directed the union government to seek approval from the heritage committee before starting the construction of the mega project.
It has to be noted that the case pertaining to the Central Vista Project has been going on in the Supreme Court for a few months. Earlier on the 7th of December, the apex court permitted the union government to go ahead with the foundation stone-laying ceremony but asked the Centre to not start the construction of the project.
With the project getting a nod from the Supreme Court, the Central Vista Project is just a step away to go ahead with the construction works of the project. Once the heritage committee gives its clearance, the construction can be started.
The Central Vista Project was announced by the Union government in September 2020. The proposed project, which would be constructed in a triangular form will come with facilities like seating arrangements for 900 to 1,200 MPs.
Tata Projects Limited has won the bid to construct the new Parliament building which is expected to be constructed in two years. The cost of the proposed project is Rs 861.90 crore.
