Centre Overlooks Telugu States In GST Compensation
By: Tupaki Desk | 28 July 2020 12:23 PM ISTAs part of the Goods and Services Tax (GST) compensation, the Union government allotted a total of Rs 1,65,302 towards the states. The government issued an official statement in this regard.
The official statement issued by the Finance Ministery maintained that a total of Rs 13,806 crore was released towards the GSI Compensation for the states. To facilitate the GST Compensation for this financial year, the Ministry used the balance of cess amount that was collected in 2017-18 and 2018-19.
Looking at the states that received the highest GST Compensation, Maharashtra tops the list with Rs 19,233 crore, while the Bharatiya Janata Party(BJP)-led Karnataka received the second-highest compensation with Rs 18,628 crore.
Tamil Nadu(Rs 12,305 crore), Punjab( Rs 12, 187 crore) are the other states after Maharashtra and Karnataka to receive a larger GST Compensation as its share.
As usual, the Telugu States was given the least compensation. Andhra Pradesh and Telangana were given Rs 3,028 crore and Rs 3,045 crore respectively. Ironically, Telugu States pay higher taxes when compared to the other states.
