Centre steps into Water Disputes between AP and TS!
By: Tupaki Desk | 12 Sep 2021 10:51 AM GMTTo keep an end to the long-lasting water disputes between Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, the Jal Shakti Ministry brought a gazette notification, which says the water boards will hold the power and control over the irrigation projects. However, the Telugu states wanted a few changes to be made to the notification.
Andhra Pradesh had placed a few suggestions before the River Boards. The AP officials said that the projects that were in the state before the bifurcation of Andhra Pradesh should be removed from the purview of the board. Besides this, the Machkund and Sileru Power generation projects should be removed from the purview of the Godavari River Board.
On the other hand, Telangana said that the gazette notification should not be implemented till the water sharing is fixed between the two states. The guideline which says that the permission for the projects without permission should be taken in six months should be eased.
The officials of the River Board Management are slated to hold a key meeting with the Jal Shakti Ministry and the issues raised by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana are also expected to be discussed in the meeting.
Before looking into the issues, the Jal Shakti Ministry is likely to hold a meeting with the Chief Ministers of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. We have to wait and see if the issues will be sorted or not.
