The official residence of the President of India Ramnath Kovind was all decked up to invite the nominees of the Padma Awards, one of the highest civilian awards in the country. The winners were conferred with the awards and his excellency, the President presented them with the awards.

Out of all the winners, a century-plus-old yoga guru and spiritual leader Swami Sivananda had caught everyone's attention. There are two reasons for this. One is his age and the second reason is the response he got at the ceremony.

Swami Sivananda, a 125-year-old person was selected for the Padma Shri award for the valuable contribution he made towards the field of Yoga. As an example of his simple life, he had worn Dhoti and Kurta and entered the hall barefoot. When he entered the hall, he received a standing ovation

He had knelt before Prime Minister Narendra Modi and President Ramnath Kovind on the occasion. Before taking the award, he knelt before the President and the President helped him to get up.

The Swami had a sad past as he lost his parents at an early age. Later, he was taken to an Ashram and from his guru, the swami learned all the spiritual education, and over the decades he has been serving the underprivileged.
