In Talk: Delay In Naidu Family Asset Declaration
By: Tupaki Desk | 5 Dec 2017 11:04 AM GMTAP CM N. Chandrababu Naidu and his family members are declaring their assets every year, usually in September. This has been a regular practice for the last few years. Chandrababu takes pride in this practice and often claims that he is one of the very few politicians who declare assets transparently. Even Lokesh mentioned the same thing on a few occasions.
If we talk about 2016, the declaration of assets came in October. Somehow, it didn't happen this year till now. Amidst several important political developments in AP including Jagan's Praja Sankalpa Yatra.. controversy over Polavaram works.. defection of YCP leaders into TDP, very few people in AP could observe that Nara family's asset declaration got delayed because we are already into December now.
As Chandrababu family is busy with the hectic political activity, the asset valuation might have taken a backseat or they may be other reasons like the confusion whether they have to declare their assets as per the book value or the market value. One would wonder why will there be any confusion?
It is to be remembered that Nara Lokesh declared the total value of properties in last October as Rs.14.5 crore including the shares in Heritage and other companies and a car. He declared that he has loans worth Rs. 6.35 crore. But the figures were completely different when he filed nomination papers for the MLC elections this year. In the affidavit submitted to the Election Commission, he stated that the total value of his properties is around Rs. 330 crore. The increase in the value of Lokesh properties was 23 times in just five months.
As the difference raised eyebrows, Lokesh has clarified later that the asset declaration in October happened as per the book value whereas the valuation of properties submitted to the EC was done as per the market value. There is a talk in the political circles that Chandrababu family is yet to arrive at a conclusion whether they have to declare the assets as per the book value or the market value.
