Who is the biggest loser of Telangana elections? The Congress got the severest drubbing in recent history. The Telangana Jana Samithi of Prof Kodandaram and the CPI have failed to win even a single seat. Even the BJP is down in the dumps. But, the biggest loser in these elections is without doubt a bearded man with a piercing stare sitting in Amaravati, the seat of power in Andhra Pradesh.
Chandrababu Naidu was the real architect of the Maha Kutami and it was he virtually okayed every candidate. Even the Congress lists were whetted by him and at his insistence several candidates were given Congress tickets. It is also an open secret that the Congress was funded almost completely by the TDP. He had promised helicopters for the Congress campaign. Chandrababu Naidu has also actively campaigned against the TRS along with AICC chief Rahul Gandhi.
Now, this alliance was proved to be disastrous for both and the people of Telangana have rejected the TDP lock stock and barrel. The famed cadre of the TDP was never actually there. The party workers have largely joined the TRS. But, Chandrababu pretended as if the TDP cadre was in tact and has thus duped the Congress Party. After the disastrous election results, several Congressman have begun to have a re-think about joining hands with Chandrababu. The TDP is all but finished in Telangana and there are now serious doubts whether the Congress will be part of the alliance in Andhra Pradesh. Will Chandrababu Naidu be able to take on a resurgent YSRCP in Andhra Pradesh? With BJP too planning a bus yatra in the state, the TDP chief has tough times ahead in the runup to 2019 elections in AP.
