Roadblock for Bhogapuram Airport
X
Opposition Parties allege TDP Government is conspiring to cheat the people with the tall claims of construction of the Bhogapuram International Airport near Srikakulam-Visakhapatnam national highway.

Centre made it clear to TDP Government that no permission for construction works will be granted unless Techno - Economic Feasibility (TEF) status was submitted. Necessary permissions weren't sought from Union Government for the Airport construction. Was Bhogapuram suitable location for International airport? Did the AP Government follow Land Acquisition Act 2013?

AP Government has been mulling to construct Greenfield Airport at Bhogapuram spreading across Rs 5,132 acres. Cost of the project is estimated to be Rs 2,700 crore. Bhogapuram Airport Authority chairman Ajay Jain arranged a meeting with Bidders such as GMR-GVK-Tata-Reliance in Hyderabad. Both GMR & GVK walked out complaining lack of viability. Whereas, AP Government denied a chance for Tata and Reliance citing their lack of experience to take up such a project.

Air Traffic should be at least 25 lakhs per year for an International Airport. Even Visakha airport was used by only 3,500 travelers per day. In that case, Questions were raised on the feasibility of Bhogapuram Airport.
