Tripura's handsome gym trainer-cum-chief minister Biplob Deb is known for shooting off his mouth once too often. He has now landed himself and his party in trouble with his unsavoury comments. The latest source of shame for the government is his off-the-cuff comments on Punjabis and Jats.
In an undated video that is going viral, Biplob Deb is heard saying that Punjabis are strong and able bodied, but the Jat Haryanvis are brainless people. They do not understand a thing, he is heard saying. This statement has now become a big headache for the BJP. The leaders of the Congress from Haryana like Randeep Singh Surjewala are asking the BJP leadership to explain about these statements. This is an insult to the Haryanvi pride, they said.
The BJP leadership, especially in Haryana is finding itself in a spot. They are unable to either defend Biplob or criticize him. The Congress is having a field day at the expense of this gaffe by a respectable CM of a very important state.
