The political crisis in Punjab had reportedly reached the bursting point with the tussle between Punjab Chief Minister and senior leader Navjot Sidhu continuing to rise. Amid this, the All India Congress Committee said a crucial meeting will be held on Saturday.

The In-charge from the Punjab wing of Congress Harish Rawat in a tweet said the crucial meeting was called for going by the proposal of the legislators from the state Congress. The Congress Legislative Party meeting will take place at 5 PM today at the Congress Party office in Punjab.

'The AICC has received a representation from a large number of MLAs from the congress party, requesting to immediately convene a meeting of the Congress Legislative Party of Punjab. Accordingly, a meeting of the CLP has been convened at 5:00 PM on 18th September at,' Harish Rawat said in the first tweet.

'Punjab Pradesh Congress Committee office. AICC directs the PPCC to facilitate this meeting. All congress MLAs of Punjab are requested to kindly attend this meeting,' he added.

Cricketer-turned-politician Navjot Sidhu, who has been at the loggerheads with the Chief Minister, made a tweet saying that the meeting will be held in Chandigarh on 18th September.

"As per the AICC directive, Congress Legislature Party meeting has been convened at @INCPunjab PPCC Office, Chandigarh on 18 September 2021 (Saturday) 5 PM," he tweeted.

The sudden key meeting comes at the time when the leaders in the Congress party are not happy with Chief Minister Amarinder Singh. They had openly expressed their displeasure of working with the Chief Minister. The rebel leaders include Ministers and legislators.

In the wake of these developments, Punjab Chief Minister Amarinder Singh reportedly said that he will resign from his post if the same conditions continue to prevail in the party.

Before the commencement of the CPL meeting, the Chief Minister is likely to resign from his position and his resignation letter is expected to be sent to the Punjab Governor today evening. However, an official announcement is awaited.

On the other hand, the rebel leaders in the Punjab Congress are expected to pick their new leader. With this, the political observers are waiting for the meeting to commence to see what happens with the Punjab Congress.
