Chinese technology company all set to sponsor IPL title again!
By: Tupaki Desk | 11 March 2021 11:24 AM GMTChinese technology company Vivo bagged the title sponsorship rights of the world's richest cricket tournament, Indian Premier League(IPL). The Chinese company won the five-year title sponsorship from 2018 to 2022.
However, the Board of Control for Cricket in India(BCCI) has pulled Vivo out of sponsorship after the violent stand-off between Indian and Chinese soldiers at the Line of Actual Control.
Now it is said that Vivo is gearing up for the title sponsorship for the upcoming edition of the IPL. The 2021 edition of the IPL will start on the 9th of April. Unlike the previous version, this edition will be held in India.
The News Agency Press Trust of India(PTI) quoted Vivo India Director Brand Strategy Nipun Marya as saying, We (Vivo) will be back as the IPL title sponsorship. We are pretty excited to join hands with the IPL once again.
The Vivo India head termed the suspension of title sponsorship as a mutual decision taking the tense situation at the border into consideration. But now, the environment has changed completely. Our contracts will continue with IPL with the earlier terms and conditions, he said.
Following the stand-off between India and China, the Indian government has banned over 59 Chinese apps, including TikTok for reportedly compromising on users' privacy.
