On the occasion of the Centurian year of the Indian National Flag design, YSRCP supremo, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy visited the family members of Indian flag designer Pingali Venkaiah at their residence.

After visiting Pingali Venkaiah's daughter, CM Jajagan has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and batted for conferring Bharat Ratna, the highest civilian award to Pingali Venkaiah.

"Request your kind self to honour the aspirations of the people of Andhra Pradesh by giving a deserving acknowledgement to the life and contribution of late Pingali Venkaiah by conferring Bharat Ratna (posthumously) upon him," the CM maintained in the letter.

Jagan's recommendation to the Centre came when the union government started Azad ka Amrut Mahostav' today to celebrate the 75 years of Indian Independence.

In his letter, CM Jagan highlighted the journey of Pingali Venkaiah who became part of the Indian independence movement after getting influenced by the ideology and thoughts of Mahatma Gandhi.

Pingali Venkaiah had gifted his designs for the National Flag to Gandhi on March 31, 1921, in Vijayawada. Pingali was credited as the designer of the Indian National Flag after the Constituent Assembly adopted his design on July 22, 1947.

CM Jagan went on to say that, Pingaliu Venkaiah was not recognized for his works. The designer of the National flag died on July 4, 1963. But he didn't receive his due credit, Jagan said.
