Like never before in India, Andhra Pradesh Chief Minister YS Jagan Mohan Reddy on Thursday launched ration door delivery vehicles in Vijayawada. The CM flagged off a fleet of 2,500 Mobile Dispensing Units from Vijayawada today.

As a part of his election campaign promise, the dynamic CM has launched the program at Vijayawada Benz Circle to provide good quality rice and other ration supplies right at the doorstep of the ration cardholders.

The Chief Minister said that he was moved by the plight of elderly and differently-abled people to get the ration supplies in time. So, the government aims to deliver good quality rice through a mobile vehicle, with an additional cost of Rs 830 crore per annum to the government.

Using the village and ward volunteers system, the rice will be distributed at the doorstep by taking the cardholder's fingerprints and supplying ration in reusable bags with precise weight. The government also took steps to stop the adulteration by sealing the rice bags and tagging them with a unique code. By fitting GPS to all ration distribution vehicles, cardholders will know the details of the delivery in real-time through the mobile app.

As per reports, the government has purchased nearly 9,260 mobile vehicles at a cost of Rs 539 crore for the same reason and these vehicles were given by the government at 60 percent subsidy to eligible beneficiaries through different corporations under the Employment Guarantee Scheme for jobless youth.
