Following the allegations from Main Opposition YSR Congress that suicides in Narayana Educational Institutions were a failure of the Government, AP Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu appointed the one-member panel to check if the pressure from Managements to secure good score led to the suicide. The panel will also take into cognisance the recommendations of Neerada Reddy Committee who probe suicides of students in United AP.

A single-member committee headed by former IAS Officer D Chakrapani will probe the suicides of girl students in private junior colleges in the state. Human Resources Development (HRD) Minister Ganta Srinivasa Rao has issued the orders in this regard.

Currently, D Chakrapani is holding an additional charge as the Director for the Centre for Innovations in Public Systems. He will now have to inquire the reasons which prompted several girl students to commit suicide in the recent past and suggest preventive measures. All that the single-member panel have is a one-month's time to submit the detailed report.
