Will Telugu Desam Party completely vanish from Telangana? The party that once ruled Telangana for over three decades, may soon become a thing of past. The party had won just 2 MLA seats out of the 13 seats it contested in the just concluded Telangana elections. Both the seats are from Khammam district.
It failed to win even a single seat in either Rangareddy or Hyderabad districts. It lost even from settler-dominated constituencies like qutbullahpur, Serilingampalli and Kukatpalli. In Kukatpalli, Nandamuri Harikrishna's daughter Suhasini came a poor third sounding the complete decilne of the party in Telangana.
Now there are doubts that even these two MLAs who had won could jump into the ruling TRS. Since they have to take up developmental works in their respective constituencies, they might soon switch sides. One of the MLA - Sandra Venakta Veeraiah - is steadfastly loyal to the TDP and has not switched sides in the last house. But, will he be able to hold on to his party this time. Even he might join the ruling TRS. As a result, the party may not have even a single MLA in Telangana.
The party's loyal cadre too has vanished. In this elections, the TDP polled just 3 per cent votes. This only means that the party's cadre has deserted the TDP and joined the TRS. So, will it be swansong for the TDP in Telagnana?
