Maha Boost To Karnataka Alliance?
By: Tupaki Desk | 1 Dec 2019 4:33 AM GMTIs Maharashtra's new political alliance shaping Opposition politics in Karnataka too? If Karnataka watchers are to be believed, the two non-BJP parties - the Congress and the Janata Dal (Secular) too are planning to come together a la Maharashtra to keep the BJP out of power.
With the bypolls to 15 assembly seats approaching fast, both the parties are now thinking in terms of coming together again. The two parties had come together earlier to keep the BJP out of power. But, within a year, the BJP managed to get several Congress and JDS MLAs to resign from their posts and bring down the JDS government. After this, both Janata Dal and the Congress have broken the alliance and decided to go it alone for the elections. But after the Maharashtra developments, there is a rethink among both the parties. They are now coming to believe that they can replicate the Maharashtra strategy in Karnataka too.
If they fight together, they stand better chances of defeating the BJP. If the BJP manages to win at least seven MLA seats, its position would be secure. But, if the Opposition alliance manages to limit the BJP seats to less than seven, then the government will fall. So, now both Deve Gowda and senior Congress leaders are hinting at a possible alliance between the two parties. Will this succeeed? Will these two parties come together again? Will the Yeddiyurappa be able to do what Fadnavis failed to do? Lets wait and see.
