On the eve of the Bollywood singer 91st birth anniversary, Mumbai Congress President Sanjay Nirupam, Vice President Jaiprakash Singh and Minority Cell leaders paid tributes to him at the Juhu Tara Road cemetery. Speaking on this occasion, Sanjay Nirupam said Mohammad Rafi has influenced generations with his magical voice and music lovers haven't forgotten his songs even 35 years after his demise. He opined the iconic personality deserved to be conferred with Bharat Ratna and appealed Government of India to make a move.
Mohammed Rafi made his debut in 1941 and he was a sensation in Indian Music Industry. His sudden demise at the age of 55 in 1980 was hard to digest for his fans. Roads were named after him in Mumbai and Pune. His son Shahid Rafi has been running the Mohammed Rafi Academy.
