Congress still a non-starter in Munugode
By: Tupaki Desk | 29 Aug 2022 7:49 AM GMTMunugode was a seat held by the Congress Party in the assembly. So, when sitting MLA Komatireddy Rajagopal Reddy resigned from the party and forced a byelection, everyone felt that the Congress would do everything at its command to win the seat. But, as things stand today, let alone winning the seat, the Congress may not even be a runner-up in the keenly contested fight.
While both the BJP and the TRS have intensified their campaign and are pitting all the resources at their command to win Munugode, the Congress is nowhere in the picture. The Congress has not declared who its candidate would be in the bypoll. Not just that, it has not even started its election campaigning.
The party has yet to decide who its candidate is. At least four aspirants, including Sravanthi and Palle Ravi, are trying their luck. But, none of the four candidates are sure of getting the party ticket. As a result, they are now wary of making investments and launching campaigns. The Congress has not even held a meeting to decide on the campaign.
On one hand, senior leaders like Komatireddy Venkat Reddy has clearly said that he would not campaign against his brother, who is a BJP candidate. On the other hand, the Congress has not formulated any alternative campaign strategy to win Munugode. At this rate, the Congress will only be a poor third in this contest, say political watchers.
