The PPAP (Pen Pineapple Apple Pen) Song has become quite popular all over the World. Even the parody of this sensational song caught everyone's attention but for all the wrong reasons.
Hong Kong Actor Derek Wong shared a parody video of the PPAP Song which is more like a dig at Indians. He painted his face brown, draped in saree, red bindi and many tika. Some of the indecent gestures like lifting the saree and showing off his legs has also invited the wrath of the Indian Community. He also showcased Indian stereotypes using chicken curry and mango lasso. The parody video was titled as 'PPAP Indian Aunty'.
After receiving the backlash, Derek Wong issued a public apology before deleting the videos from his official social platforms. 'I am deeply sorry that I have upset and offended the Indian community as well as many others. My original intention of making these video clips was purely to entertain through portraying different characters without ill intention. I was never trying to offend, discriminate or reinforce stereotypes for any nationality, ethnicity or gender. I am sorry for my ignorance in this incident and I sincerely hope those affected will accept my apology,' he told.
