Convalescent Plasma Therapy Is A Cure To COVID-19?
By: Tupaki Desk | 8 April 2020 5:06 AM GMTCOVID-19 is ravaging the world countries, taking the lives of thousands of people in a single day. In these tragic times, all the countries are searching for the cure for this deadly virus. Several big shots across the world have come forward to set up companies to find the vaccine for COVID-19.
Interestingly, Faheem Younus, Chief Quality Officer and Chief of Infectious Diseases, University of Maryland UCH has announced the convalescent plasma therapy is showing good results in treating the Coronavirus patients.
Faheem Younus took to twitter and said," Treatment news! 5 critically ill COVID patients (on ventilators) receives antibody-rich plasma from 5 other patients who had recovered from COVID.
Results: 3 discharged; 2 in stable condition!
Now 1 of my recovering patient wants to donate his plasma!" Faheem Younus tweeted.
The therapy, which takes antibodies from the blood of a person who has recovered from a virus and transfuses those antibodies into a COVID-19 patient, will help to kickstart a patient's immune system.
Hopefully, this is good news as the therapy gives good results. However, it is not currently known if convalescent plasma will be an effective treatment against COVID-19, but news of success from studies around the world are showing promising results.
