The impact of the recently held Local body elections in the Greater Hyderabad region is not less than Assembly elections and General elections. All the major parties have given their best efforts to attract the voters.

The vote-counting process is underway. The early trends showed the saffron party BJP leading in majority divisions. As the counting went on, the lead in votes shifted towards ruling TRS.

Going by the live reports shown by the media outlets, the ruling TRS is currently leading in 70 divisions, while AIMIM and BJP are leading in 26 and 35 divisions respectively.

Compared to the 99 seats won by TRS in the previous elections, the TRS is expected to win a less number of divisions. However, despite winning less number of divisions, TRS would be in a comfortable position.

The GHMC elections can be seen as significant growth for the BJP party. The party barely managed to win a mere four divisions in the last elections.

In many divisions, BJP and TRS had a tough fight. BJP leading divisions which has a significant population of settlers can be seen as a good sign for the BJP, which is hoping to increase its base in Telangana.

On the other hand, AIMIM continued its stronghold in Muslim dominated areas. With leading in nearly 40 divisions, the party is also showing its mark in the elections.

The elections left the Congress party in a state of embarrassment. So far, the party barely managed to lead in 3 divisions. Since 2014, the Congress party went on to lose its base in both the Telugu states.
