Court Blasts SBI For upholding Farmers Certificate for 31 Paise!

The farmer community is the most honest and hard-working community one will ever come across. No matter how hard the circumstances are, they don’t leave farming and they feed the nation. In return, many of the farmers will be left with no food and they have to struggle hard to get a loan from the banks.

More than farming, the farmers will have a tough time getting loans and clearing the same to the banks. A recent incident sheds light on how the banks harass farmers who take loans for farming purposes.

Going into detail, a State Bank of India (SBI) bank in Gujarat did not give a no-dues certificate to a farmer who has a debt of 31 paise to the bank. As he wants to sell his land, the certificate is very vital. But the bank did not give the certificate and the issue reached the state High Court.

During the hearing, the Gujarat High Court was not at all happy with what happened and blasted the SBI authorities for what they did. The Court said that it was ridiculous on their part and came down severely on the bank authorities.

Directing the SBI bank to issue the certificate, the High Court ordered that the bank should pay a sum of Rs 25,000 along with an interest of 12 percent. The bank was given a time of one month to pay the sum. One wonders who will create a big issue for a mere 32 paise.
