We have heard many stories of women getting alimony from their ex-husbands after they call it quits.

Now a court has sent a strong message that men and women are equal before the law and if wives have a steady income, they have to give alimony to their ex-husbands on the condition that if one is not employed and has no skills to get a job to move on in life.

Going into details, a woman who is working as a teacher at a school had knocked on the doors of the Aurangabad bench of the Bombay High Court challenging the orders issued by the Nanded court in connection with the alimony issue. However, the bench had upheld the orders and said that it cannot intervene in the matter.

The Case deals with a woman who tied the knot with her husband back in 1992. However, she had approached the court seeking a divorce from her husband. In her divorce petition, the woman alleged that her husband is not treating her well and she is having issues with her marriage. The woman and her ex-husband were granted a divorce.

However, the husband had moved the court seeking alimony from her ex-wife on the grounds of his unemployment and lack of skills to secure a job. Satisfied with this, the court had directed the women to send Rs 3,000 every month.

Later, the court had directed the authorities of the school where the woman works were directed by the court to cut as much as Rs 5,000 from her salary and send the same to the court for the arrears.

The court had issued the orders after knowing that the woman is not paying the alimony to the man. The woman had later knocked on the doors of the Bombay High Court. However, the court said that the orders are appropriate and they cannot interfere in the matter.
