Covid-19 second wave: India's single-day infections @ 1,26,265

India's struggles to fight the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic continue as the country is making new records in terms of reporting new infections caused by the deadly respiratory disease.
On April 8th, India reported the highest spike in single-day infections with not less than 1,26,265 new COVID-19 cases, and the total Coronavirus infections in the nation rose to 1,29,28,574.
As per the information shared by the Union Health Ministry, as many as 684 people lost their lives to respiratory disease in the past 24 hours, which takes the total toll of casualties to 1,66,892.
States like Maharashtra(59,907), Chhattisgarh(over 10,000), and Karnataka and Uttar Pradesh with over 6,000 cases respectively have witnessed a massive spike in infections recorded in the last 24 hours.
Along with the fresh cases, the recovered cases have also increased in the past 24 hours. Not less than 59,132 people were declared cured and discharged from the hospitals. The total recoveries zoomed to 1,18,51,393 and the active cases stood at 8,43,473.
Following the tense situation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is expected to chair a crucial review meeting with the Chief Ministers of the state to discuss the key measures that are to be followed to contain the virus.
Earlier, the Union Government has sent expert teams to the severely hit states to help the states to beat the virus. These teams will be staying for the coming few days to help the states.
