The novel Coronavirus is creating havoc in the country. Since the past week, the cases are going up daily. Breaking all the previous records, India witnessed the highest number of single-day cases on Monday after the second wave of Coronavirus pandemic had ended.

Across the country, around 1,8 lakh new cases were reported in the past 24 hours as not less than 1,79,723 people were declared positive for respiratory disease. After a long time, the active cases have crossed the 7 lakh mark in the country.

India steadily seeing a sharp rise in Covid cases that too in big numbers added fuel to the opinion that the third wave of the virus had started in the country already. As a bothering situation, India reported more than one lakh single-day infections for the fourth consecutive day.

As a result of the big spike in the new cases, the daily positivity rate of the deadly virus had gone up while the national recovery rate went down which now fell to 96.98 percent. On the other hand, the daily positivity rate mounted to 13.29 percent.

In the wake of the pandemic situation turning problematic, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is said to have chaired a key meeting with the concerned officials the other day. Expressing his concerns over the situation, the Prime Minister had reportedly issued key directives to the officials on intensifying the efforts to ramp up the vaccination numbers.

Within no time, the infections caused by the Omicron variant are soaring up in the country and had crossed the 4,000 mark. As of now, the Omicron infections stood at 4,033.

On the other hand, the Covid fatality count rose to 483,936, after as many as 146 Covid patients have lost their lives battling respiratory disease. There are 7,23,619 active cases of the pandemic in the country.

As the cases are going up rapidly, India took a key call on giving the precautionary vaccine, the third dose of vaccine to the beneficiaries. As a pilot project, the vaccine doses will be given to people who are over 60 and older people with comorbidities. The frontline workers will also be given the doses.
