Covid-19 in India: Over 160 doctors, 100 nurses lost their lives to pandemic

Since then, the Corona warriors and frontline workers include doctors, nurses and ASHA workers have been rendering the services in the country to tackle respiratory disease.
Sadly, several Corona warriors and healthcare workers in the country have come in contact with the Coronavirys while treating the patients. Though some of them have managed to beat the pandemic, some of them have succumbed to the pandemic.
However, there is no official record on the count of Corona warriors, who have succumbed to the respiratory disease in the line of duty. The Union government gave a record on doctors and nurses who have succumbed to Covid-19.
Responding to a question on Rajya Sabha on Tuesday, the Minister of State for Health Ashwini Kumar Choubey said 162 doctors, 107 nurses, and 44 ASHA workers in the country have lost their lives to Covid-19 so far.
He said the data of the Coronawarriors losing their lives to the novel Coronavirus in the country was filed based on the information received from the states and Union territories, as of the 22nd of January.
The Health Ministry has followed up the verification in this regard. The insurance disbursement will be de-centralized for the Corona warriors under the Pradhan Mantri Garib Kalyan Package (PMGKP: Insurance Scheme), he said.
The verification process is done in a way that, the healthcare Institution, the organization will submit the required documents for the concerned officials of State, Union Territory. After looking into the applications, the Health Ministry will approve the applications.
